For a few years, the multinational corporation Eldorado Gold, specialized in gold mining, has settled in Skouries and started mining activities on a large scale with the help of powerful national private interests. Thus, the irreparable destruction of Skouries’ ecosystem and the imminent danger of soil and water tables contamination with heavy metals, are a real threat in the whole oriental Halkidiki. The same company also plans the development of the Romanian Certej mining project.

On November 9th, the people of Skouries called to simultaneous demonstrations, events, actions everywhere in the world to stop any persecution and imprisonment against them and to stop immediately gold exploitation in Halkidiki.
